Everybody with 8.25 Probs

Okay,

I'm keeping this somewhat short, I need my sleep. =) I'll be happy to
answer any question tomorrow afternoon though. I've broken 2 of the 8.25s
(both in a different way) and I ran 15.5s at that time. I say swap, but if
not one thing that might help is a better axle cover. There is a cover
made by a company(don't remeber the name) that puts pressure on the bearing
caps to stop them from flexing and helps it stay together. These are the
same things that Summit sells for the 8.8 Stang rear. With that, the axle
is supposed to hold 300 hp on street tires.

Anyhow, I have no idea about the 9.25 swap, but I've heard the rear track
is 1" wider on the Gen 3's. If this is total width or 1" each side I don't
know. If the spring perches are too far in/out, cut 'em off and buy new
ones from Mopar and weld 'em on. Not a bad way to go...

As far as swapping to something else, I have the 8 3/4 in mine. Not a hard
swap really. I've heard a b-body rear almost bolts right in, don't know
that for sure. I put one from a 74 Ram in. I had it shortened(can get all
the specs if anyone's really interested), custom Moser axles made, and put
in a Mancini center section. Yes, it cost some $$$, but the damn thing
won't have ANY probs until the ~650 hp mark. I ain't worried about it.
One negative - the loss of rear ABS. That's it! Driveshaft has to be
shortened a tad (I think <.5" - don't remember, got a custom one now) and
the stock rar U-joint can be used IF the 8 3/4 center section uses a type
7290 u-joint (the bigger one!!!!!). And you can use the stock brakes, as
well. I'll write more if anyone's interested.....

If anyone needs spider gears for the Gen 2(27 spline) single track rear, I
got a set from my last rear in GC, no chips, no teeth missing.... Pay
shipping and their yours. I also have a set of 6 lug 8.25 axles, btw....

Lata,
