I agree. If anything goes in the front, I'd go with an ARB air locker. And
only use it when needed, which should only be big time rock crawling or if
you end up ass deep in mud and you have no winch (in which case you're
probably not going to get out yourself). This experience comes from running
Jeeps offroad...and I'm sure the same principles exist with Dak's.

You would not be happy with a true locker in the front of ANY 4x4 that is
used on the streets at all.
Best bet is an "Air Locker", it allows you to lock or unlock your front on
demand.
I don't know if they have one for the Dakota or not.
Being "locked" front and rear is great for hairy off roading, but it's not
safe, or fun on the streets. It's a bear to turn the truck with a locked
front.
