WATCH OUT!

You know that sheet you sign when you hand the truck over to the service
department? It authorizes them to perform ANY work that Chrysler
recommends through TSBs, etc. without having to ask you for approval.
Basically, if you bring it in, they can do anything they want to it.

You can try talking to the service manager, and put in writing that you
do not authorize any reprogramming of the PCM, but I don't know how much
luck you'll have.

AFAIK, no dealer knows what the flash actually does. Chrysler beams it
down and that's that. They don't provide any information, and the techs
don't have the tools or knowledge to read the actual code.

I have seen nothing to indicate that the flash fixed the ping on my
truck.

I just went through all this (have you seen my post?). Basically, if
you can avoid having the PCM flash done, get the intake manifold checked
for leaks, have the spark plug wire reroute TSB done (number is in my
post from last night), have them check the sync on the distributor, then
get the **** out of Dodge (no pun intended). At that point, the
dealer's done all they can do (and will do) short of the flash. If that
doesn't cure it, it's time to take matters into your own hands. Colder
plugs, MAP sensor, 180 t-stat. If all that doesn't work, you 'll likely
be stuck with 89 octane unless you go for the flash.
