The electric fan on the 4.7L trucks is kicked on when the a/c is on,
regardless of engine temperature. With the a/c off, the electric fan is
activated ny the computer when the engine temp reaches 210 deg.
i know my fan clutch is bad, and I am going to replace it.But I guess since
the clutch doesn't work, I haven't had an engine fan. With just the
electric,(mind you that this is in texas summer, average 100*) I will tell
you that with the a/c on, truck runs perfect. With the a/c off, the temp will
wander upwards and you have to use the heater to bleed off some heat.If I
would idle with no a/c, truck would get hot pretty quick.I've decided that
the 4.7L was designed to run w/the a/c on anyway.Because: It Idles 150 rpm
higher and holds it,I've never had it quit on me w/ the a/c running, but it
will stall without it.And, the temp issue.I have been trying to figure a way
to wire up a fan switch for the electric fan, because I sure would like to be
able to use it without my a/c.I try to avoid using the a/c at all.I think
mine's been on once a week for about 20 min during my ride home to keep all
the oils moving around in there amd to keep the system from getting musty.I
don't like a/c's and never have.I just don't use it.Hope this helps,Will

I think the electric fan kicks in when the AC is on, but I don't know for
sure.
the computer might kick it on without the ac. I live in Los Angeles, Ca.
