Subject: DML: New 4.7L questions continued...

Good Morning Everyone!

I have been on a related tangent to this thread. The question was brought up
about using Mobil 1 Tri-Synthetic oil in the 4.7L. Steven StLaurent and I
have been discussing this. Steven talked with his dealership's mechanics and
I talked directly to Chrysler (regarding voiding the warranty) and here are
the results:

Engine - The mechanics said no, but Chrysler said they don't suggest going
back and forth between synthetics and regular oil, but there is no warranty
issue with using Mobil 1.

Manual Trans - Chrysler does not suggest using synthetics, only use there
Mopar brand (I don't think they have tested it, and Eve is not a technical
person nor did she have the details).

I just changed my oil at 1,100 miles (Sorry!!!) and put Valvoline in (still
left over from the 3.9L). I will be switching to the Mobil brand at the next
change (planning @ 3,000 mi). I am not sure whether to use the
Tri-Synthetics or Mobil Drive Clean Oil. Have you guys read about this
stuff? Check out the specs for the Drive Clean Oil at:

I'm still up in the air. The numbers are better for the synthetics
(obviously) but not too far apart. What are your thoughts - stay with Drive
Clean Oil or Tri-Synthetic series? Thanks guys!

Thanks to all who responded.

The consensus seems to be:

1) Change oil at around 1000 miles.
2) Run it through RPM ranges fairly early on. 50 to 75 and back in fourth.
(No cruise.)
3) Don't run it hard for ~500 miles or so.

Sound like a reasonable summary?
