Tony,
I'm also in the process of finding an aftermarket tranny. I just contacted
Richmond yesterday. They have a regular 5-speed and a 6-speed overdrive
manual tranny available. It is not a direct bolt in though. The way I
understand it, you need an A33 or hemi bell housing to adapt the tranny to
the engine. There are one or two bolt holes that must also be drilled in
the housing. The trannys are designed for cars, so the shifter is located
at the rear of the tranny vs the mid-point used for trucks. Dimension from
the bellhousing to center of shifter is 20.75", and 2-2.5" left of center.
Then there is also the issue of the mounts and driveshaft.

This is as far as I've gotten so far. Took a couple glances at
Borg-Warners, but haven't made any calls yet. Most if these look to mate
with GM vehicles. Don't know about an available adapter yet. I've also
given thought to just having an NV3500 "specially built" to hold up the way
it should in the first place. Figure the cost will be in the neighborhood
of $3000 anyway you go. Even thinking about an automatic (bite my tongue)
with a manual valve body. (Anybody need a spare clutch pedel?) I'll try to
keep you abreast of what I find out.

Subject: DML: 5 Speed tranny upgrade question

Does anyone know which 5 speed(s) they put behind the 360s in the Rams?
Will they bolt up / fit a 98 318 Dakota? What is overall length? Length to
the mount? Length to shifter? Does it use the same slave cylinder, flywheel,
pressure plate, Crank position sensor, etc???

I've determined that the mechanic did screw up my head gaskets. So I'm
going to pull the motor, and do a bottom end R&R. It would be the perfect
time to swap to a beefier unit.

Also does anyone have a recommendation on rings for a supercharged motor?

I've found that Clevite makes a 220 degree main bearing that will get a
little more oil to the rods. (MS1334Z) Does anyone know if there is still a
full groove main bearing available?
