Chris,
I am pretty sure it is a ground. On my Dak there is the larger 4-6guage main
negative battery cable and the a smaller 10-12 gauge wire which is the
ground to the body. Just run a smaller wire with a ring style terminal
bolted onto the negative terminal bolt/nut and ground it somewhere good.
This should solve your problems.
