Just a thought... I was getting some pinging with mine recently. I'll
be trying to fix it in a couple of weeks, but in the mean time I've
switched to 89 octane. I noticed that I get 30-40 miles *more* per
tank than I have been for the past couple of years with 87 octane.
Have you tried using different gas just as an experiment?

I only noticed the pinging within the past couple of months. I'm not
sure how to explain the increase in mileage. My only theory is that
maybe I've been getting some light pinging that I couldn't hear for
quite a while.

Does pinging waste fuel? Seems like you're not using the chemical
energy properly, so it just gets wasted. I don't really know, I'm
just guessing (sounds good though).

If this is so, maybe we can get the EPA to pressure Chrysler to figure
out how to fix the pinging problem instead of letting dealers get away
with "they all do that."

Linux: Because a 486 is a terrible thing to waste.
