option for sand in the bed

There's been alot of post recommending various ways to put weight in the back
of your truck. I'd like to suggest to stay away from large, heavy solid
objects. I did just that years ago. I had some custom formed concrete based
blocks I made back in the back of the bed. One day a buddy of mine was riding
with me and said "man, I don't wanna be in here if we get in a wreck and see
them baby's come flyin' through the cab on us". I started thinking about it
and it scared the hell outa me. So I'd vote for anything that would not be a
solid heavy mass flying toward the back of my head in the event of a collision.
I used an old truck inner tube cut into several sections and tied off at the
ends. I then filled the sections with dry sand. I had about 6 or 7 of them at
about 20 or 30 lbs each. They were easy to place where I wanted them and I had
relatively small 'missles' in the event of a collision rather than an ICBM. I
like the idea about the 4" pvc pipe too, but I'd keep the size down so as not
to have any thing too big. The tube sand you can buy at the store isn't a bad
idea either. Just a thought.
