The t-stat also affects fuel mixture. The engines runs richer until it is warmed up then it balances out. Since the Engine temp barely or rarely reaches 195 most people change to a 180 t-stat. I guess this also helps w/ the hp. Something like 10hp is a possible gain... I don't know... I have yet to spend the $10 to get one.
