AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- DaimlerChrysler is recalling 769,000
1993-94 Dodge, Plymouth and Chrysler minivans because their
steering column may loosen, causing the steering wheel to
wobble. A spokesman said the automaker had received 70
reports of loose steering wheels on Dodge Caravan, Plymouth
Voyager and Chrysler Town and Country minivans. There have
been no reports of accidents or injuries caused by the prob-
lem, which will be repaired by welding a metal plate to rein-
force the steering wheel where it attaches to the steering
column. “The fix should take no more than an hour. We have
the parts on hand in the field,” DaimlerChrysler spokesman
Dave Wilkins said. The recall affects 679,000 minivans in
the United States and 72,000 in Canada.
