On the 2000's, it's located on the yoke that's in between your right
headlamp and the radiator. It's a sensor with a small cable running to it.
It's bolted to the yoke before the grill. It's a variable resistor type
sensor powered by a 5-volt circuit from the CCD, the results of which go to
your overhead console. Temperature readings can become inaccurate if you're
sitting in stop-and-go traffic as there is no airflow to keep the engine air
from hitting it. This may be more evident for you folks that removed that
rubber pad in the front to allow more airflow for your intake.

Subject: DML: ambient thermometer

My '99 Dak 4x4 Sport came with a factory installed ambient or outdoor
thermometer in the roof mounted console. Problem is that the reading is
affected by the inside temp, that is the temp increases as the interior
warms up. It's absolutely worthless. Anyone else had problems with this
option? Maybe one of you guys with factory manuals knows where is the
sensor located? I still have a little warranty left, wonder if it's
covered?

TIA
