Getting close to tire time

Driving in to work yesterday morning, I got a really bad feeling from my
tires. In 2WD, on what looked to be clear road (there was snow on the
road, but had those ruts worn in from a few thousand cars driving
through - I would have been in 4WD if it was all snow), I got some real
bad side to side motion while driving straight ahead. Possibly black
ice, but can't say for sure. Might have been a crosswind pushing me as
well, but I didn't hear it.

Anyway, I know that my 28,000 mile-old 31x10.5 Wrangler RT/S tires are
slick to begin with, and this just worries me more. I have about 260
pounds in the bed right over the axle, and last checked my tires at
34/30 F/R at about 15 degrees ambient air temp (it was in the single
digits on this particular morning).

So, looking at new tires, I really like the improved stance that 32x11.5
Wrangler AT/S's gave Adam's '00, and he has no clearance/rubbing
problems. Would the rack & pinion on the '00 give more clearance than I
have on my '99 (recirc. ball), or do I have the room? I think I
probably do, but want to be really, really sure (this is a big
investment). More importantly, the PCM can only be tweaked for tire
sizes that come standard on the Dak, so how do I get it recalibrated for
32's if I get them? If it can be done easily and cheaply, I'll
definitely go to 32's, but if it'll end up costing me big, I'll stick
with 31's.
