The speakers for a 97+ dakota for the fronts are 6.5S
the "S" stands for oversized. There are a couple speaker companies that
make the oversized speaker, but it's normally not in stock at audio stores.
For a low price of about 10 bucks, you can buy these adaptors that will
adapt the 6.5S factory location, give it another inch of depth and you cna
screw regular 6.5" speakers in. hope that helps

ps. if you REALLY want to keep things factory with ur truck and not cut the
speaker harnesses, they sell the little adaptors that the factory speakers
plug into, I believe circuit city sells those for 5.99
