Cummins layoff (Dondge content)

As reported in the Columbus, Indiana newspaper "The
Republic", 10 of January in the year 2001, Cummins
Engine Company to layoff 140 employees at the Cummins
Midrange Engine Plant in Columbus, Indiana. The CMEP
facility is where Cummins makes the Turbo Diesel
Engine for the DaimlerChrysler Dodge Ram truck. The
CMEP facility has been working a 32 hour workweek
since the 1st of November. Reasons for the layoff
were accounted for the slowing of DC Dodge Ram truck
sales. Also, reported was the layoff of 200 employees
at Valeo Sylvania's plant in Seymour, Indiana. The VS
plant makes light bulbs for headlights and other
lighting in vehicles. Reasons for the layoff are the
dropping of new car sales in the North American auto
