How do I remove the 4x4 shifter knob

Does anyone out there know how to remove the 4x4 shifter knob on a 98 Dakota?
I dont seem to see any screws or retaining clips near the knob. I want to try
to see If I could put a hurst T-Handle on it. Any suggestions ?????
