Steve, I also have a '99 V-6 with the same problem. I reported on it last
spring. I was towing an empty trailer up I-75. There were times when I had
it in overdrive and could motor up slight grades and gain speed. Two miles
later I could not even hold the speed constant going downhill! It
alternated like this the whole trip and was very frustrating. The worst
part was having S-10 pickups towing a similar trailer loaded with 1 or 2
Harleys passing me the whole trip.
Dealer couldn't find anything wrong, just told me not to tow in OD!
Personally I think this is bullsh*t. I have several times had more weight
in the back than that empty trailer weighs, and motor down the road in DO
with no problems.
FWIW
Cal
