K&N shrinkage

Hi, all.

Quite awhile back, there were a number of posts about shrinkage
to the K&N 14" filters. I remember that K&N replaced them at no
costs.

Does anyone remember if K&N gave the reason behind the shrinkage,
and does anyone recall the procedure that someone would have to go
through to get a free replacement? TIA.
