LEGISLATIVE ALERT from SEMA
Pro-Hobbyist Antique Vehicle Bill in Texas
A bill (H.B. 495) has been introduced in the Texas legislature
that would
expand the number of antique vehicles eligible for exemption under the
junked vehicle public nuisance law.
We Urge You to Contact Your State Legislators in Support of This Bill
• H.B. 495 amends the definition of an exempted antique vehicle under
the
junked vehicle public nuisance law to mean “a passenger car or truck that
is
at least 25 years old.” The current law requires a vehicle to be at
least
35 years old to receive this exemption.
• H.B. 495 eliminates the contradiction between the definition of a
vehicle
eligible for classic motor vehicle license plates (at least 25 years old)
and the definition of an antique vehicle.
• H.B. 495 allows hobbyists the freedom to restore or modify older
vehicles
without the fear of government harassment.
• H.B. 495 still requires areas of outdoor storage of inoperable
vehicles
to be screened and maintained in an orderly manner and not a health
hazard.
Contact your state legislators in support of this proposed
legislation.
