I personally use the Actron OBD-II Scanner (about $300) and/or the OBD-2
Cable (http://www.obd-2.com) with my laptop ($140).

Does anyone recommend a hand held device to read error codes from the
diagnostic jacks in many cars or trucks. Do they work on a variety of makes
