The hose on the passenger side runs from the PCV valve to the intake manifold
and should be left attached. The one on the driver's side runs from the
breather
to the air hat. This hose can be removed if you plug up the connector at
the air hat
and replace the stock breather with an open air breather (e.g. K&N or
chrome type).
