This sounds like the same thing that happened to by buddy's car. We took it out for a little joyriding after putting new wires on, and by the time we were finished we started to hear a sound sorta like the one your describing. So I will ask you the same questions the Mechanic asked my buddy. Is it an automatic? if so, does it vibrate as bad in neutral? if it does not vibrate as much in neutral, try taking it up to 2000rpm and see if the vibration seems to be in a constant pattern. On an automatic if this happens it usually means that your Torque Converter has gone bad. On the stick shift I wouldn't really have any idea but my best bet would be the flexplate. But actually what had happened is when the TC went bad it had so much torque on it that it actually bent the flywheel along with it. costed him about $950 for parts and labor. Of course after that he went with a stall converter though. HTH
