Changed to synthetic...

Hey all,

Another data point for the dino- to synthetic oil conversion. My truck is
stock, and the oil swap was the only thing done. For the first oil change, I
went to the dealer and had them do the first freebie. For the second change,
I switched to Mobil 10w30 after running the oil varnish cleaner
whatchacallit through the engine.

After two fill-ups at half a tank a piece (89 octane, this remained the same
as well) I have seen a gain of 2 mpg while driving the same route in about
the same amount of time that I always do (keeping my driving habits pretty
much the same). The old hog seems to rev a little easier and run quieter
than with the first change. Also seems to shift better, although nothing was
changed in the trans and such as I haven't reached the service intervals on
those pieces yet.

Given this success, I am willing to try this with the trans, diffs, and
transfer case. I'll comb the list archives and see what y'all have used in
the past for switching those areas over to synthetic (but hey, new tips are
welcome as well).

Just thought I'd lend another "thumbs up" for running synthetic in our
trucks.

Have fun,
