Yep, they did. Then came the restrictor plates. Chokes the carb (it's
a plate between the carb and manifold to restrict the opening) to keep
speeds down. The cars can't generate enough downforce and handle safely
enough at 200+ speeds in the corners, so they have to artificially keep
the speeds down.
