One quart in 3K miles is NOT a very small amount. Check for a blown belly
pan gasket. (My old Javelin never used up even a quarter of that...at 185K
miles.)

Use a flashlight and look down inside the throttle body with the throttle
held
open and see if it looks oily inside the intake. You may just have a bad
belly
pan gasket and sucking oil out of the lifter gallery. The converter can
hide
some mild oil burning. However a quart in 3000 miles is very small amount
anyway.
