Water Pump Update

Just as I was putting one in the chamber getting ready to shoot.........NO
LEAKS!! I bought 3 o-rings today from the dealer, hoping to have 2
extras(really really hoping). I pulled the metal tube out and found the
o-ring to be split in half; this was the 3rd o-ring I went through and all
were split in half. I double checked that there werent any sharp or rough
edges on this hole the metal pipe/o-ring slides into. It was smooth, very
smooth. I measured from the tip of the hole on the outside of the water pump
to a ridge on the inside of the bottom of the hole. Then slide the pipe in
without an o-ring on it, and with a fine tipped permanent marker, marked the
bottom of the metal pipe, where the top of the water pump's hole is. I
pulled the metal pipe back out and measured the distance from this marked
location to the bottom of the pipe; this measurement was the same distance
from tip of the hole on the outside of the water pump to the ridge on the
inside of the bottom of the hole. I thought maybe I was somehow cutting the
o-ring on this ridge by pushing it too deep. So I then carefully pushed the
metal pipe(o-ring installed) down into the water pump, noting where the mark
was on the pipe I made. This was I knew how far down into the pump the pipe
had to seat itself. I lined up the mark pefectly and bolted the bracket
down. Well guess what.......it frigin worked. I topped off the coolant and
took it for a nice 30 minute drive on the highway. My truck ran COOL, I mean
nice and cold.....like it did when it had 50,000 miles on it. I am headed
out right now to double check the coolant level. My truck never
overheated(nor came anywhere close), but over the years the temp gauge was
getting upto the 1/4 marker or so, and now isnt even at the 1/8 marker, nice
and cool. I still dont 108% trust that it wont leak(that metal pipe/water
pump design plan sucks), but hopefully the truck will prove me wrong and it
will stay dry. It only took me 15 hours from start to finish to put a water
pump on, HAHA. I also installed a new Accel Super Coil, new Autolite
Coppers(.044 gap)...and a nice round silver billet aluminum air cleaner nut.
Thanks a lot to all who provided me with help and suggestions on this rather
nasty installation, I do appreciate all the help.
