Security system question

Hello all:

  I recently bought a 2000 Dakota Quad-Cab SLT. It came with the keyless
entry, but I'm intrested in upgrading to the base-level security system.

Is this something I could do myself? (I have had some limited experiance
working on cars)

What kind of cost am I looking at to do this? This is probably the biggest
issue. I want a security system, but I'm sieriously straped for cash right
now.
