My solution was to fab up 2x2 box steel side rails on my dak, had them welded
together by a friend, had them powder coated black, then welded directly to
the frame rails of the truck. They look like nerf bars, double as a step
rail, but are strong enough not only to support the entire weight of the
truck via hi-lift, but also deflect tall rocks from the rocker panels when
wheeling (and literally use them to slide over obstacles without crushing the
sides). A lot of Jeepers use custom-welded side rails like this so although
it took some custom work, it was a great mod for my Dak.
