SuperChips ICON - Update

Well, after a few days of messing around with my timing curve, I finally got
it to the point that I don't need any type of timing retard system at all.
(Yes, No BTM!)

I gave it .5 - 1 degree of advance out of the hole and then gradually retard
the timing from 2400 - 5600 in .5 degree steps across that RPM band. And I
can run the Mid-Grade Unleaded with this as well. :) (A little bit of a
cost savings in the long run.)

Marty (KRC Performance) sold me on of the SuperChips ICON Race Controllers
and I love it. It takes no more than 3-4 minutes to reprogram the timing
curve (booting to DOS included) and, although I haven't tested it "On the
Fly", I just pull into a parking lot and reprogram it. I mounted my box
outside, under the hood, but can be mounted inside the cab for ease of use.
I also modified the cover plate to accept a 3/4" Rubber cap which makes
hooking up the cable a snap...you normally have to unscrew four tiny screws
and remove the plat...now I just remove the rubber cap, plug in the cable,
and reprogram
(and replace the cap when i'm done).

The installation instructions for the box itself are easy but the software
instructions lack...actually, they suck (I'm writing some up for future
users). It's DOS based software so you'll either have to run it from a
modified Windows95/98 window or restart in DOS-Mode to run it. Will NOT run
under Windows2000.

Granted, it also doesn't allow for specific timing curve areas (Part, Mid,
and WOT)...but it does allow you to reprogram the entire timing curve from
1200 - 7000RPM. You can run it with your MSD, Jacobs, Accel, or whatever
ignition system you like. It wires into the PCM harness BEFORE the
coil/ignition system so it modified the signal after the PCM sees it. The
PCM can't "relearn" or adjust it.

My opinion of this little box: Well worth the money for those who want that
extra little bit. ;)

I'll have some pictures of the installation tomorrow. (Too dark now.)
