Yep, any setting that has anything to do with the defroster will kick the
a/c on...no matter where the temp setting is. Most vehicles are this way.
Even my 95, which has a button to activate the a/c, does this. The button
can be in the a/c off position, temp setting to the hottest possible, but if
I hit the defrost button, the a/c comes on.
