My '98 with 3.55 gears runs fine on 87 oct. Gas mileage hovers around 11-12
mpg city, the highest I ever got on the highway was a little over 16 and the
average mpg to date is 12.6.

They're meant to run on 87 octane but a number of people run 89 or even
92 because of a pinging problem inherent in many 97-99's. I personally
run 87 after trying a few "physical" fixes - thermostat, spark plugs, a
few other things. I may run 89 this summer, we'll see what gas prices
look like.

I get 12-14 MPG in the winter, city driving. My running gas mileage
(all told, winter, summer, highway, city) since June of 99 is about
14.75 MPG. In the summer it's fairly consistent, winter it gets really
erratic. I've seen as much as 19 MPG in the summer on the highway. I
have 3.55s, so it is a tiny bit (not terribly much) better than the
3.92.
