Wow, thanks to all for the opinions on bikes. I guess we love speed in
everything and bikes are as close to hondas as we'll ever go? hehe

Well, The mix of opinions is pretty cool with me. After reading that the
bike will run a 13s quarter mile. I think I'm going to invest in this one.

It's a blue/silver 2000 Ninja EX500. free oil changes anytime for 2 years
and includes a "summer & winterization" free for 2 years. bike helmet is
factored into the price. It was a basic helmet with a little vent on top on
the forehead and a vent on the mouth.

Cost is 4800. Minus 1000 as a downpayment and 179 a month for 2 years at 9%
APR. Gotta call insurance and ask how much. Hopefully the 500cc bike will
help out on insurance rates.

I think I'll be happy with the bike. I'm not out to go cruise with the guys
everynite and it'll be a fun little cruising bike. I know I'll want the
power later on, but I wouldn't be able to convince my parents into
co-signing for me on a 120+??? hp 600cc GSX-R. I have experience riding
bikes before because my buddy had a 100cc dirt bike and we used to take it
everywhere.

HERE is the new question..

Kansas law allows me to go take a written test to get a motorcycle PERMIT.
which allows me to drive alone without the "need" for headlights.

anyone remember the harder questions on it? My friend said "how many bikes
per lane on the road max?" I guessed "2" but the answer was 3. Does anyone
remember any questions??? Thanks.

PS. what does all the v-twin stuff mean? 2 cylinders in a v configuration?
also, if I added an exhaust and a jet kit. what kit is recommended and
about how much? how hard to do it myself? any other relatively cheaper
mods that can be done to it?

Dester my bud,

A question right up my alley. The Ninja 500 is a very capable bike. If you
have never ridden a motorcycle before this bike is certainly the best kind
of machinery out there for you. If you do have more experience I would go
with a 600. I personally have an 89 EX500 Ninja. I love this bike and it
has worked nearly flawlessly for me. I think you will like the performance.
Stock the bike will run mid 12's to low 13's. It has a top speed of about
118. Modified it can go much faster. Considering a 600 will have a top
speed of around 145-150 this is a bit slower. But if you are learning you
don't need to go that fast, if ever. I have had my bike to 128mph before
and although it didn't scare me it is very fast. The one disadvantage I
have with the bike is that I am a big guy and my excess weight affects the
performance of the bike. So I would be better off getting a bigger bike but
only because I have been riding for nine years. My next bike is hopefully
going to be a Ducati if I can afford it! One other note is that insurance
will be a lot cheaper for the Ninja than with a full race-rep 600 supersport
bike. Also keep in mind that there are many mods you can do to the bike to
make it both handle and perform tons better. If this hasn't swayed you yet
keep in mind that the Ninja 500 is the most raced bike in Twin Cylinder
racing. Let me know if I can give you any more information.
