So Bernd, would you suggest I take it in now or would they likely blow it off
with 'all manual trannies will make some noise' or should I let it blow?
Basically, would a tranny tech see it as a real problem or not? My local
dealer's developed a fair case of brushing me off, but I can get a second
vehicle and leave it with them. Any idea how much time I'd have before it
fails, if it does? Also, should I let them add fluid to it and give it back if
they agree it's a problem or will the sound keep up even with a full gearcase?
Finally, the 3.9s use NV3500s too, right? I'll test drive a 3.9 or 4.7 if they
have a 5-spd on the lot, just to compare notes if they're the same.

If the tranny fluid was low for a while, you could be hearing the first
sings of a input shaft bearing failure. (I had a similar problem with mine
about a year ago...same sounds as you described.)

I've developed a high-pictched whining in my manual tranny. It's pretty
noticable over 50 or so in 5th and changes pitch with speed and changes
intensity with throttle, so it's classic gear whine. Mine's been pretty

from day 1 and at low speed (under 5 or so) even sounds like a jar of
marbles,
like there's air in the bearings - cavitation it sounds like. It's my only

tranny fluid and I might try that before taking it by. What weight Redline
would be right for the tranny, and in what capacity? If the gear oil gets
low,
will you hear the gears start to whine or what?
