Curious as to what model Jeep this is and what the setup is on it
(suspension, tires, drivetrain, heavy accessories like a winch, etc). Try to
guesstimate the approx. finished weight of my under-construction Scrambler.
Truck shopping starts this weekend and we may buy or lease a Durango.

Subject: DML: Towing, YMMV

Towing: I recently towed a show jeep about 1000 miles from Richmond VA to
Springfield IL. My Equipment consisted of the stock HD towing package (2"
reciever) with a 318 in a 99 4x4 CC. At a weigh station, it was determined
that the combined weight of the trailer and jeep was 5400# (generic U-Haul
car
hauler) I saw no difficulties during this tow other than the crap ass hitch
brake that U-Haul had on their trailer. At one point <flame suit on, I know
this was stupid> I accelerated up a 4 1/2% grade to just over 100 mph just
to
see if I could. At 100, I still had about 1/4 pedal, in 3rd (od locked off,
I
don't recall the rpm). I did average 18.2 mpg over 1087 miles on this trip.

My point is: you have a bigger motor, but not probably the same rear
suspension & tires (31x10.50, "C" - I had to run mine up to 50# unloaded)so
other than your rear suspension (airshocks?) you should be in good shape if
you go with either method - reciever or 5th wheel. Good luck.
