It is possible. I hear a lot of tensioners go belly up, some that are
pretty new as well. I went through two of them on my Caravan....and six
belts before the dealer decided it was the tensioner the first time. Good
thing for warranty!

When changing the serpentine belt is it normal for the tensioner to remain
in the "loose" position after turning the nut clockwise? I thought it was
under constant tension counter-clockwise to maintain proper tension on the
belt. Do I have a bad tensioner?
