Actually Sean, 5250 rpm's is where the numbers will always intersect each
other, but ok. I was just giving him a way to figure his maximum theoretical
top speed. I didn't say the truck would actually pull XXX MPH, and be
running 6000 rpms. I bet with the weight he's carrying and the wind
resistance being what it is, it would take a while for him to accelerate at
high engine/road speeds. The enigne will drop off at a point, but the wind
resistance might not let him actually get to the point that a lack of power
would be a problem. I was really tring to give him a way to go back to his
"buddy" and say, "OK, look- my truck shuts down at 6000 rpms, If I had the
speed limiter disabled, with the tires and gears I have, it would max out
here-at XXX mph." The number(I didn't actually figure it up) would probably
have been far enough on the high side of 120, that his "buddy" wouldn't have
argued it.Good point, though. Glad he wasn't arguing with you, then he'd
probably be trying to get me to figure up a bunch of other factors!

Great advice! Just a question....do you think it is worth calculating past
5350 rpm's? 5350 is when the torque and HP curves cross and after that there
is very little power. The engine will continue to accel very slowly past
5350 due to low torque, but at those "theoretical" speeds, there would be
too much wind resistance to continue accelerating past 5350 (Yes I am just
guessing! I am limited so can not prove!!!).

Either way, it's a powerful combination!
