I am not sure, I had a similar problem on our 77 Skylark today, mine was
cuased by the engine running too slow to put out the correct voltage...
Simple enough, the choke wasn't uhh chokin.. Anyways Ona enwer vehicle the
GEN light is control eighter by the Voltage output or by the Amperage. I
would call and autoparts store and see what amperage the alternator should be
putting out (they'll give you a max) Test the amperage and if it's bellow
50% of the rating, get the alternator checked out, it's probaply crapped out.
 I saw bellow 50% becasue unless there is a fully load the alternator won't
put out the rated AMPs... Hope this helps...
