Well, while I'm posting like a mad man, I figured I might as
well go for one more. I thought I'd share my experience
installing Accel's 300+ ignition system on my truck. I got a
one-week used one from Doug M. off the list (Thanks again
Doug!). When it arrived, I wanted to install it right away, but
the wife didn't know I was getting it (already surpassed my
allowed monthly Dak expenditure), so I had to wait. I was
impatient as usual and ended up going to a buddy's place and
installed it in less than ten minutes. It included a harness
and I didn't even have to look at the instructions--just take
out the stock coil, drill a few holes on the fender wall to
mount, match up the different plugs, and it was good to go. It
does have a bit of an audible buzz (from outside and inside the
truck) but no EM interference. Since I have my stereo going
most of the time, I don't even notice the buzz.
Getting to the good stuff, I definitely notice that the truck's
accleration seems overall, "smoother" . . . that's the only way
I can describe it. I definitely notice that the bit of
'bogging' I got on the shift from 2nd to 3rd is much better (I
have 32" tires and the 3.55 rearend). I haven't had it on long
enough, nor can I keep my foot out of it, to judge any mileage
gains (plus I just got that belly pan gasket fixed, so I won't
really even have a good baseline for comparison). I also did
not replace my ignition wires yet--still trying to decide what
to get--so that's certainly a major constriction right now on
the 'ol electricity flow. With new wires, I hope to notice more
gains. Bottom line, it seems to be a quality product (even has
a lifetime warranty) and installation was easy enough I think a
ten-year-old could have done it. I'd definitely buy it used
from Doug again. ;)
