Ron,
I spent some time going through the archives and I found what I was talking
about. I was a little off though about the key thing.
For those who'd like their 42/44/46RE tranny to default to "OD Lockout",
here's what you do:
1) Attach the coil of a "normally open" SPST 12v relay across the starter
motor solenoid connections.
2) Run an additional pair of wires from the "OD Lockout" switch to the relay
contacts.
When you start the engine, the relay will momentarily close the contacts and
release when the engine starts. This will automatically put the tranny into
"OD Lockout" mode. To engage OD, just press OD switch as usual.

Hey Chris,
It's worse than I thought. What turns the overdrive solenoid on is either
the TCM or the PCM depending on whether or not you have a 4.7. In both
cases, when the ignition is first turned on the overdrive solenoid is
activated. You cannot alter that unless you know your way into the TCM or
PCM. When you push that little button at end of your shift lever, you
basically change the position of the switch in the TCM or PCM. Each time
it's pressed the switch changes to the opposite position of what it was
before you pushed it. The positive wire from the switch to the TCM or PCM
is orange/white. The black ground goes to G200.
Good luck.

I could have sworn I saw some way to do it with the key as well as some
other method. Oh well.

Not without messing with some wiring.

Isn't there a method in which you can make the OD start out in the off
position when you start the truck?
