I didn't mean to sound so terse, Will. I really thought you guys had a
legit reason for doing that. I was ready to take the cap off and wipe it
all out. The word "dielectric" in itself means non-conductive. Vocabulary
lesson for the day. Again, Will, sorry, I didn't mean to sound like that.

Sorry, Ron! My mistake! I'm sorry for any confusion this might have caused.
Didn't realize that the grease was non-conductive. I always thought it was!
I learned something else tonight!! By all means Ron, leave it there if it is
working for you!

That can't be the correct answer. Dielectric grease is non-conductive. If
the grease conducted electricity, it would allow the tracking to ground of
the power or signal being conducted.
The primary purposes of the grease are to keep out moisture, and prevent
corrosion. Prevention of corrosion keeps the metal-to-metal contact point in
a connector conducting electricity. In the case of brass contacts there
probably isn't a problem anyway.
Now, unless you have some other reason why I shouldn't have it on the inside
of my cap, I'm leaving it there.
