First, congrats on your times.
At 5600 rpm, the engine is outside its power band i.e. hp is
decreasing.
I'll assume that you have not had a shift kit put in your tranny.
Slacken the TV cable by moving the cable one notch (2 at the most)
towards the rad. and see if this helps. Also, make sure that your
tranny fluid is at least to the full mark and you are using the right
type of fluid. Make the adjustment at the track and go back to
your original setting before you leave the track if you are satisfy
with how it now shifts on the street. Adjustments too far in either
direction will eventually lead to worn tranny valves and clutch
friction material.
Whenever a gear shift sticks and unless the valve train components
have not been beefed up, lift off the pedal a little to force the shift
if it doesn't shift around 5200 rpms or you risk bending a pushrod
or damaging a valve.
I have had a WOT, manual shift problem in the 44RE since installing
a Transgo Shift kit over two years ago and have not been able to zero
in on the exact cause.
I've taken line pressure readings and, on the governor line, it behaves
as it should according to the FSM except when the throttle is wipe open.
At this point, the pressure gauge readings become erratic instead of
showing a steady increase.
They have found that governor pressure sensor have been flakey
(I don't know if it applies to the '92 or not) and came out with a
replacement sensor which became standard in the '99 and up models.
I replaced the sensor a month ago and, while it did help a little
(quicker shifts after lift) the shifts were still sticking. I've switched
to Amsoil ATF+4 a couple of weeks ago and further improvements
were realized. I can now do WOT manual 1-2 shifts at 4800
and 2-3 shifts at 5400 without lifting.
