I can't tell you based as far as off a VIN code; but on a 96 you should have
the 2.5 based off of the old 2.2 OHC motor. Should have a plastic cover over
the timing belt on it. And also still have a bracket that looks misplaced
sticking through it.. (that's a motor mount for FWD installations). Does it
have the Distributor & Oil filter right in the open on the drivers side.. if
so.. That's the motor. IT'll have an AL head.. so try not to run it hot..
Those heads seem pretty fragile when the engines get hot.
