Help. My transfer case makes all kinds of noise. After I installed the
Hurst shifter, I could hear all the action in the transmission and transfer
case. The noise was greatest in 5th gear, but it was present in all gears.
I confirmed this with a stethoscope, the transfer case in neutral and the
transmission in gear. It sounded like a bucket of marbles in there.
Here is what I need. Could someone put their transfer case in neutral and
their transmission in 5th gear and listen from outside of the vehicle on the
passenger side. Let me know if you hear any abnormally loud "gear" noise.
My vehicle is at the dealer now and they claim that this is normal when the
transfer case is in neutral and there is no "load" on the drive train. I
know this to be untrue as I have heard this noise through the Hurst shifter
at highway speeds. Admittedly, this is much harder to hear from inside with
the stock shifter as I never noticed it before the Hurst. I currently have
the stock shifter back in the truck so as not to raise suspicions with the
dealer.
