Subject: DML: Got pulled over by a sheriff in a Durango..

Here is some advice. Beware of white Durangos with internal lights (not on
top) in southeast Utah!

I was stuck behind about seven vehicles doing the train thing behind some
anonymous 'soap-bubble' coupe doing 60 in a 65 going up hwy 191 (?) south of
Moab Utah and got tired of it. I saw an opportunity and took the whole line
of them and came back in
ahead of the soap bubble doing about 90. I was just slowing down from the
pass when this white durango coming the other way hits his brakes, when he
passes I see the sheriff star emblem on the side. I just pulled over as I
saw no reason to play the 'who
me? speeding?' game. He had clocked me at 86. I explained about having
just completed a pass, but that yes, I was speeding, no doubt. I gave him
my AZ conceal carry permit and asked if he would like me to clear and pass
my carry pistol to him until our
'transaction' was concluded (a common courtesy) and he said it wouldn't be
necessary. He asked me if I had any other guns in the truck and I listed
off half of my collection (as I intended to shoot with my dad up in Grand
Junction area), seven guns in
total, he just nodded. He then informed me that my AZ CCW permit was no
good in UT. I felt a sudden chill, but I then politely informed him that a
law was just passed that allowed an out of state CCW permit to be honored by
UT for 60 days (this is true
by the way) and he just says "really? ok.", then he goes back and does the
radio thing. Probably checking the CCW thing among the standard stuff. I
took a moment to snap a picture of the Durango with lights going in my
drivers rear view mirror (I was
thinking of you guys and figured you'd get a kick out of it and will post
once I get it in jpg or whatever format). After a few minutes he comes back
and gives me my license etc and tells me that he's letting me off since "you
didn't make me chase you".
All in all a pleasant experience. But I'd rather not repeat it, obviously.
Anyway, watch out for the Mopar Militia in SE UT!
