The tip was too small...the only size that I could get that was close was a
4mm but that spinned a bit when I put pressure on it.

The squair part on the end of an easy out isn't for VICE GRIPS!!!
They will pull crooked and maybe make matters worse. It is made to fit in a
TAP HANDLE some of which will accept a 3/8 drive ratchet. On the high end
they do make a set of sockets that fit the shanks of the taps and easy outs.
