Hey, Andy,
Good point. I take apart a LOT of abused wood stoves for evaluation &
rebuild (if possible) & you would not believe how distorted/brittle some of
the bolts get after years of high temp burning, & how hard they are to
remove. Most of them are 1/4-20 & 10-24 threads and WITHOUT the additional
heat treatment aren't very durable. WD-40 & an impact driver (- the ballpeen
hammer-type -) is the only way to get some of them out. I'll admit that I've
done my share of snapping/drilling/retapping, but I will say that it's
dramatically less since I smartened up & started using the impact driver.
Just my $.02(K)...
