I'm no expert on this subject, just trying to understand something. Assuming
your truck is stock and pinging and you performed all the recommended fixes
(wire re-route, checked the bellypan gasket, colder plugs and thermostat,
higher octane gas) wouldn't the pinging go away if the cause truly was that
the timing was advanced? Why would you need the pcm flashed by the dealer to
retard the timing. When you buy a performance pcm or after market add on
like Jet or Hypertech, isn't the main purpose to advance your timing? They
tell you to use high octane gas and colder thermostat/plugs so your engine
wont ping.
