HELP Check Engine Light

Help I got a check engine light today and I have tried to on off on off on
with the ignition key and I cannot get the codes to appear. Also is there
any way to clear this without going to the dealor?

I was going down a steep set of hills in 2nd gear for a bit and the engine
stalled and the light came on...

Help!! :(
