Backfiring when decelerating ?

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what amount of backfiring (through
the exhaust) is normal. My truck always backfired to some degree when
decelerating in a lower gear. It is much more obvious with the exhaust I'm
running, but I was wondering if the aggressive cam I put in was contributing
to the situation?
