I agree 100%. The advantage to a professional muffler shop is the welds and
quality of welds. They also have mandrel type pipe bending which keeps your
diameter the same all the way through. Small difference though it seems,
however, your exhaust pulses can tell the difference (same as in welds that
have leaks). Before you say it, that circumstance certainly would be more
pronounced at the headers than the cat-back, however, every little bit
helps.

Subject: Re: DML: cat-back questions!
The cat back system usually comes as several seperate parts.
A muffler shop should be able to remove the pipe from the converter with an
air chisel.
Your best bet is to have them weld the new system together, it is well worth
the extra cost in my opinion.
I had a shop in CA (Mikes Muffler) weld mine together as well as install a
3"
in/out high flow cat and put a piece of 3" pipe from the headers to the cat.
I supplied the cat and the cat-back system, they supplied the custom bent
piece of three inch pipe and a non-shiny exhaust tip (the chrome one is a
cop
magnet). They did the whole thing for just over $100 which isn't much
considering the cost of the parts.
I have since removed the cat completely
